Summary:For the treatment of calcaneal fractures, determination of the disruption of the posterior subtalar joint is important. Sanders proposed a new classification for calcaneal fractures based on CT findings in 1993. In this study, we evaluated the pre-operative cisruption and clinical results of 19 cases treated in our hospital prospectively, according to this classification. These cases were classified into 8 categories, 3 type I, 3 type IIA, 3 type IIB, 3 type IIC, 3 type IIIAB, 3 IIIAC and one type IIIBC. Those cases with minimal displacement tended to achieve excellent results. We recommend that the disruption of the posterior subtalar joint in calcaneal fractures should be determined based on CT findings.
