Summary:Anionic aliphatic is one of the most promising and applicable additives for preparation of coal-water slurry. Anionic aliphatic was synthesised and was further characterised by Fourier transform infrared, zeta potentials, apparent viscosities and static stabilities. The properties of anionic aliphatic as additive for coal-water slurry were evaluated. For the coal-water slurry with solid content of 65 wt-% adding 0.5 wt-% additive, the apparent viscosity was 322 mPa.s, and the static stability was good (i.e. the penetration ratio of the sample was 80.3%). Results showed that the coal-water slurry with anionic aliphatic additive had good properties. The coal-water slurry performances can be further improved via application of two additives (i.e. polycarboxylate and aliphatic) simultaneously because of steric hindrance, hydrophilic improvement and electrostatic force effects.
