Summary: | In order to find which hydrogen is more active for the hydrogenation of ethylen, absorbed on strong site of nickel catalyst, or on weak site, the experiment was carried out by a modification of the diffential and kinetic isotope method using tritium as a tracer. Hydrogen (or tritium) was absorbed first on the reduced nickel catalyst at -78° and tritium (or hydrogen) was subsequently absorbed, then ethylene was added. After a certain hour, hydrogen, ethylene and ethane were drawn off from the reaction vessel and separated. The assay of tritium in every gas was then made using a G-M tube. The result led to a conclusion that the hydrogen absorbed on strong site is more active than that on weak site. |
