Summary: | We have demonstrated both interventional procedures for cerebral infarction model in rats and several utilizable materials for embolization which include our newly developed electro-activated detachable coil device for embolization of aneurysm and N-butyl-cyanoacrylate (NBCA). Rats were used for the experimental cerebral infarction model. In order to prove the cerebral infarction, a microcatheter (polyethylene) with guide wire (Terumo Co. Ltd.) was inserted from the femoral artery to the carotid artery (Seldinger method). Several embolization materials were injected from this microcatheter, and their characteristics for producing the cerebral infarction were compared and assessed by digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and pathological observations. They are microfibrillar collagen (MC), lipiodol, isobutyl-2-cyanoacrylate (IBCA) & lipiodol, N-butyl-cyanoacrylate (NBCA) & lipiodol, estrogen alcohol & polyvinyl acetate (EA&PV_ac ), ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVAL), and electlo-activated detachable coil. We have successfully produced the cerebral infarction models and embolized the carotid artery at the proper distal or proximal portion. For the purpose of distal embolization, MC>lipiodol>IBCA&lipiodol>NBCA&lipiodol were suitable. On the contrary, for the purpose of proximal embolization, EVAL>EA&PV_ac are suitable, and detachable coil is effective on the proximal ligation. From these results, it is considerd that the choice of proper embolization materials is important for producing cerebral infarction at the proper portion of the carotid artery. |
