Summary: | In order to test anomalous retinal correspondence objectively, a prism adaptation test was performed on 17 esotropic patients by both the overcorrection method and neutralizing method. The overcorrection method is a method which causes exodeviation by the use of overcorrected base-out prism and alternate prism cover test (APCT) and the neutralizing method is a method which causes no deviation by the use of the appropriate prism and the APCT. The prism was placed in front of the strabismic eye for half an hour and the angle of residual esodeviation was measured by the APCT. Eight cases of esotropia were diagnosed as normal retinal correspondence and the remaining 9 cases were diagnosed as anomalous retinal correspondence. The angle of residual esodeviation of these 9 cases were almost equal to the angle measured by the use of synoptophore. It was discussed that the angle of residual esodeviation measured by the prism adaptation test might be related to the degree of anomalous retinal correspondence. It was suggested that the prism adaptation test might be useful for the objective assessment of retinal correspondence. |
