Summary:The effect of the addition of modifier oxides on the phase separation in the glass of Na2O-B2O3-SiO2 system containing high level radioactive waste has been investigated. The amount of sham waste to be introduced into the glass without phase separation increased with the addition of Li2O, ZnO, CaO, MgO, TiO2, Al2O3, until the amount of the additives reached to some value. Parameters for estimating the limiting amount of waste to be introduced into a glass of given composition were determined for these oxides from experimental data. The estimated value of limiting amount of waste agreed to the experimental result, if the effect of the addition of the modifier oxides on the formation of nonbridging oxygen had been taken into considerations.
