Summary: | A novel green phosphor of Eu2+-doped Ca5(PO4)2SiO4 was prepared by a solid-state reaction. The Ca5(PO4)2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphor was excited at wavelengths of 220–450nm, which was suitable for the emission band of near ultraviolet (n-UV) light emitting diode (LED) (350–430nm). In Ca5(PO4)2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphor, there were three distinguishable Eu2+ sites, which resulted in a strong green emission peaking at 530nm and broad bands up to 700nm. The effect of the activated Eu2+ concentration on the photoluminescence (PL) emission intensity of the Ca5(PO4)2SiO4:Eu2+ was also investigated. Here, a phosphor-converted LED (pc-LED) was fabricated through the integration of an InGaN-based n-UV LED and the Ca5(PO4)2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphor. All of these characteristics indicated that this phosphor had a potential application in n-UV-based white LEDs.
