Summary: | Tetrapleura tetraptera Taub. is a highly valued multipurpose tree species among households in Tropical Africa. The fruits are traded at premium prices, limiting their production through seed germination. Hence, clonal propagation of superior planting stocks would be beneficial. This study investigated different concentrations of growth regulators, cutting positions and stock plant source on growth of two-node stem cuttings. One thousand four hundred and forty cuttings were obtained and treatments were laid in split-split plot design. Data on percentage survival and rooting, number of roots, number of leaves, root length and shoot length were subjected to analysis of variance. Growth regulators did not have a significant effect on the analysed variables except root length. Percentage of rooted cuttings (65.9%), cutting’s survival (56.3%), number of roots (2.2), leaves (2.5), root length (2.8 cm) and shoot length (4.7 cm) were significantly higher in basal cuttings than the medial and apical. Highest cuttings survival (38.2%), rooting percentage (38.8%), number of roots (1.5), number of leaves (1.5), root length (1.6 cm) and shoot length (2.6 cm) were obtained in Mamu source. Tetrapleura tetraptera is amenable to vegetative propagation where stock plant source variation influenced rooting success while basal cuttings gave the best performance. |
