Summary:The perceptions of 216 Coll students regarding the general SS of husbands & wives in dual-work families as a function of their respective achieved & derived occupational statuses (OSs) were examined by means of an experimental vignette. The results indicated that the wife's & husband's general SS was a function only of the husband's OS, with the wife's OS having no effect on either her SS or that of her husband. The one exception to this was the case of the high achieved OS wife in effect depressing the SS of the low OS husband. The results are discussed in terms of their implications for recent critiques of M-determined stratification models. 1 Table, 1 Figure. Modified AA.
