Summary: | A356 aluminium matrix composites reinforced with continuous Altex alumina fibres were made with the squeeze infiltration process. Stage II hardening is measured and found to be equal to or slightly higher than the fibre contribution. These results and comparison with literature data indicates that in-situ matrix hardening, if any, is caused by the matrix microstructure rather than by the constraint of the fibres. |
