Summary:Stokes amplification has been demonstrated in a single-stage Raman amplifier using collinear geometry with near-diffraction-limited seeds at very high efficiency and relatively high fluence, producing near-diffraction-limited Stokes beams from highly aberrated pump sources. Single-stage amplification of over 20 000 was achieved with converted fluences up to 1.5 J/cm2. We find excellent agreement between the experiment and our full Raman code for all the measured parameters. In addition, detailed calculations and measurements of the near-field-fluence distribution on the output Stokes beam agree reasonably well.
