Summary:The reactions of tert -butyl hydroperoxide and 1,1,3-trimethyl-3-(4-methylphenyl)butyl hydroperoxide with tetraalkylammonium bromides (Alk 4 NBr) in various solvents were studied by NMR spectroscopy. The formation of a complex between a hydroperoxide molecule and quaternary ammonium salt was experimentally proved. The equilibrium constants for hydroperoxide—Alk 4 NBr complex formation ( K c ) were determined. The influence of water on the parameters of the 1 H NMR spectrum of tert -butyl hydroperoxide was studied.
