Summary:The purpose of this study was to increase the awareness of breast cancer survivors of the risk of developing lymphedema. A total of 31 subjects treated for breast cancer participated in the viewing of an educational video on lymphedema and completed a questionnaire during the length of the study. A pretest and posttest pertaining to the knowledge the subject population received from the video was used to test its effectiveness. The results show that the educational video was effective in increasing breast cancer survivors' knowledge of lymphedema. The video provided the participants with the knowledge base needed to reduce their risk of developing lymphedema as well as the knowledge to detect early warning signs of lymphedema. Viewing of the video made an impact on the quality of life of the participants. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
