Summary:Re 3+ ions (Re = Y, La, Gd)-doped MSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu 2+ (M = Ca, Sr) phosphors were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. The effects of co-dopants (Y 3+ , La 3+ , Gd 3+ ) and Eu 2+ doping concentration on the luminescent performance of MSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu 2+ have been investigated. The co-doping with Re 3+ (Re = Y, La, Gd) significantly improved the luminescent performance of MSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu 2+ (M = Ca, Sr) overall. Re 3+ co-doping had a greater enhancing effect on higher Eu 2+ concentration samples and the Re 3+ -doped CaSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu 2+ phosphors exhibited better luminescence properties than Re 3+ -doped SrSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu 2+ ones. In addition, incorporation of Y 3+ ions to SrSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu 2+ showed the strongest emission among the three dopants (Y 3+ , La 3+ , and Gd 3+ ), while the Gd 3+ doping ions in CaSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu 2+ exhibited superior luminescence properties compared to Y 3+ and La 3+ .
