Does Shodding Bulldog Clamps Counterintuitively Increase Clamp Pressure? A Case of Renal Artery Thrombosis in a Patient Undergoing Partial Nephrectomy

The degree of intimal injury induced at the site of arterial occluding clamp placement is proportional to the force exerted by the clamp. We report a case of renal artery thrombosis following partial nephrectomy with shodded Bulldog clamps, and suggest that shodding may counterintuitively increase a...

Summary:The degree of intimal injury induced at the site of arterial occluding clamp placement is proportional to the force exerted by the clamp. We report a case of renal artery thrombosis following partial nephrectomy with shodded Bulldog clamps, and suggest that shodding may counterintuitively increase arterial occlusion pressure and the subsequent risk for intimal wall injury and arterial thrombosis.
