Summary: | Bone mass was measured by the microdensitometry method in 88 patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis (59 males, 29 females) and 60 healthy normal subjects (30 males, 30 females). A decrease in bone mass was detected for chronic hemodialysis patients in their forties by MCI and in their thirties to fifties by ∑GS/D compared with healthy normal subjects. The results of an analysis by quantitication theory I using the measured MCI and ∑GS/D as dependent variables revealed the following items related to the decrease in bone mass: concerning MCI, age (not less than 60 years), duration (not less than 61 months), osteocalcin (not less than 10.1ng/ml), calcium and phosphate binders, concerning ∑GS/D, duration (not less than 61 months), age (not less than 40 years), female, serum ferritin (not less than 251ng/ml), osteocalcin (not less than 10.1ng/ml) and C-PTH. These results suggest the possibility of adequate therapy for prevention of deterioration of renal osteodystrophy. |
