Synthesis of Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles from Estragole

Reaction of estragole, a natural allyl benzene, with nitriles gave novel 3-methyl-1-(methylsulfanyl)-2-azaspiro[4.5]deca-1,6,9-trien-8-one, 10,11-dimethoxy-6-methyl-1,5,6,12 b -tetrahydrodibenzo[ d , f ]indole-2,8-dione, and 2-methyl-2,7,7 a ,8-tetrahydropyrrolo[3,2- l ]acridin-6(3 H )-one.
