Mechanical relaxations of (AgI) x(Ag 4P 2O 7) 1− x glasses in the temperature range from – 150 to 200°C

Summary:Temperature range of the previous ultrasonic study on (AgI) x (Ag 4P 2O 7) 1− x glasses, from room temperature to 20 C (Phys. Rev. B47 (1993) 14136), was extended down to – 150°C. From the study we could compare two sound anomalies, one by the relaxation of the mobile Ag + ions originating from the AgI microdomain in the glass, and another by the relaxation of the mobile species in the supercooled liquid after glass transition. It was found that the anomalies shifted to lower temperatures in near parallel with the glass transition temperature as x was increased from 0.6 to 0.8. The attenuation peak in the high-temperature anomaly was sharper than the low-temperature counterpart, possibly by the averaging effect of the hindrances against motion of the relevant species due to rapid motion of the surroundings.
