Summary:The life-time of a metastable state of a three-level system dressed with two external oscillations with frequencies ω and 2ω is studied numerically. It is found that the lifetime depends on the relative phase of the external oscillations. This phase effect may play an essential rôle during the light induced formation of χ (2) gratings in optical materials.
