Summary:We have discussed the advantages to be gained from the use of dynamic link libraries (DLLs) for the development of knowledge based systems for the Microsoft Windows operating system. The implementation aspects are now described, and we provide general directions, background information and a number of fragments of useful code for DLL development. As an illustration, a DLL for classical statistical distributions is developed by writing a set of interface functions for an available C library.
