Summary: | The proliferative response of phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-stimulated blood mononuclear cells from unoperable lung cancer patients was significantly reduced before therapy. Indomethacin was found to improve significantly the reactivity in patients with diminished response to PHA. Radiotherapy further deteriorated the previously impaired lymphoproliferative response, while chemotherapy had no such effect. However, in hyporeactive patients of both radio- and chemotherapy-treated groups, indomethacin induced significant improvement of lymphoproliferative response. The findings suggest that, regardless of different effects of radio- and chemotherapy on PHA response, the lymphocyte reactivity to PHA could be improved only in patients with depressed reactivity. |
