Summary:A 30-year-old woman was admitted to the Obstetrics because of suspicion of toxemia of pregnancy. She was in thirty-second week of pregnancy. On admittion, the severe liver dysfunction was found. On the fourth hospital day, her consciousness was clouded and laboratory data revealed hepatic failure. She recovered consciousness eight days after. Histologic findings of liver biopsy specimen show a few monocyte infiltration in the periportal area. There is neighter fatty degeneration, fatty infiltration nor fibrosis. Those findings are compatible with acute viral hepatitis. The mechanisum of such severe liver reaction to hepatic viral infection in third trimester pregnant woman might be considered due to the Schwarzman Reaction.
