| Abstract | One autopsy case of a neonate with herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is reported. In this case, isolation from skin lesions and typing of the causative virus were performed virologically, and HSV-1 was identified as the causative virus. At autopsy coagulative necrosis was seen in the liver and adrenal glands. Numerous intranuclear inclusions were found in the vicinity of the necrotic lesions. Immunohistochemical study showed the same result as the virological study. Electron microscopically viral particles were seen in the necrotic tissue of the liver. |
