Summary: | (Chiyoda Chemical Engineering & Construction. Co., Ltd.) SYNOPSIS: -In recent years, feed stocks used in synthesis gas production have been gradually turning from coal to petroleum sources. Hence, we may actually consider this period as the turning period for resources of gas production. In view of the development of natural gas resources and expansion trends of refineries in Japan, an abundant supply of petroleum derived feed stocks may be expected. Thereby this will hasten this transition from coal to petroleum resources. In synthesis gas production methods, there are (1) the catalytic reforming process, and (2) the non-catalytic partial bombustion process. Although there is another method which may be considered as a combination of the above two processes, actually synthesis gas production may be confined to the above two processes. The advantages of operation under pressure, which is applicable to both processes have gradually become apparent. The Texaco process is one of the typical pressurized gasification process by partial combustion. This report covers the description of the Texaco process with a flow-sheet and operation data and also explains the essential points of the main equipments. Furthermore, a thorough explanation of the reaction mechanism for the partial combustio process, and, as reference, data of the changes in equilibrium composition of the generated gas at various temperatures obtained from equilibrium calculation of reaction are given .Moreover, the advantages of the Texaco process were pointed out with a comparison with those of other gasification processes. Finally, due to lack of space it was not possible to explain the synthesis gas purification process in detail but readers may reer to aprevious report written by the author, for further information on this subject. |
