Summary:A test for serum leptospira antibodies was conducted in 117 domestic cats presented for various clinical reasons to a veterinary hospital in the southern Kyushu district. Antibodies were detected in nine cats accounting for 7.7%, including two males and seven females. The ages of the cats ranged 1 to 14 years old. Five serovars of Leptospira interrogans, which were autumnalis, hebdomadis, australis, icterohaemorrhagiae and pyrogenes, were detected. No unusual findings suggesting leptospirosis were observed in the results of serum biochemical examination in cats with positive antibodies, including two cats with very high antibody titer.
