Summary: | From the Late Permian to the Late Cretaceous, the ancient family Progonocimicidae of hemipteran suborder Coleorrhyncha was widely distributed across both northern and southern hemispheres. Up until now only one species has been described from middle Cretaceous Kachin amber. Here we describe a new genus and species Awanis clarus n. gen. n. sp., making it the second report from the middle Cretaceous Kachin amber and the third record in Cretaceous fossil resins. This increases the taxonomic diversity and morphological disparity of progonocimicids during the Cretaceous. |
