Summary:To analyze the influence of machining on the surface microrelief, features of the microrelief must be related to the parameters in the later stages of machining. To that end, a method is proposed for identifying the machining conditions by determining the parameters of characteristic regions in the surface image (scalogram) obtained by wavelet resolution of the surface microgeometry. It is found that the machining conditions may be adequately assessed on the basis of parameters such as the intensity peak, the corresponding frequency–time domain, the relative coordinates of the intensity peak, the relative intensity of the peak, and the relative area of the frequency–time domain around the intensity peak.
