Summary:To this end, the FSCF’s Partnership Training Institute Network (FSCF-PTIN) was created specially to engage the involvement of stakeholders including the food industry, academic food safety experts and regulators in capacity building to improve technical competence and understanding of food safety management in the supply chain [2]. The Joint Committee on Traceability in Laboratory Medicine continues to promote activities related to development and recognition of reference materials and reference methods for a wide range of bio-measurements such as the determination of enzymes, nucleic acids, proteins, vitamins, and non-peptide hormones. Recently, NIST has expanded its program to include complex health status biomarkers like non-peptide hormones, protein (e.g., troponin-I, C-Reactive protein, albumin, etc.), and reference methods and SRMs to support genetics-based diagnostics (such as DNA triplet repeats for Fragile X Syndrome and CAG repeats for Huntington disease), and genetics-based therapy decision making (e.g., Her2-Nu, which is a biomarker for breast cancer). [...]this approach is coming under increasing pressure from increasing globalization, which involves more countries and more laboratories, and the expanding requirements by regulators and industry for proven comparability of measurements.
