THE TWELVEFOLD DIVISION OF THE RED SEA IN TWO OLD ENGLISH PROSE TEXTS

The idea that God divided the Red Sea into 12 parts, allowing each tribe of Israelites individual passage during the Exodus, was well known to Old English writers. The theme of the twelvefold division of the Red Sea in two Old English prose texts and possible sources for the idea are examined.
