Summary: | A surveillance of gastrointestinal nematode and lungworm infections in 188 Holstein heifers was conducted in the public pasture on Toyokoro Town in Hokkaido using two fecal examinations before and after ivermectin pour-on was administered. In the initial fecal examination, 93.1% of cattle had gastrointestinal nematode eggs. In the second fecal examination which was conducted on one and half month after the initial examination, cattle positive for gastrointestinal nematode eggs decreased to 71.8% and the average EPG also decreased significantly (p<0.05) . Coccidial infections were observed in 187 of 188 cattle in the initial examination and this did not decrease in the second examination. The results of this survey indicated that some measure need to be taken against parasite infections in pasture cattle including coccidial infection. |
