Summary:The study sought to elicit the perceptions of teachers and subject advisors towards the use of Khelobedu, which is a dialect, as a medium of instruction. This study followed a qualitative approach, through which data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with 8 Foundation Phase teachers and 2 subject advisors in Mopani District. The study revealed that teachers and subject advisors are of the view that Khelobedu would benefit the learners optimally if it can be used as a medium of instruction (MoI). The teachers’ stance on Khelobedu as MoI was also motivated by the fact that they encountered problems when teaching Khelobedu-L1 learners in Sepedi. Thus, its use as MoI is likely to assist Khelobedu learners in overcoming the linguistic barrier, facilitate learning, and enhance their understanding.
