Summary:This paper presents the results of research on the behavior of preflex beam considering manufacturing process. A series of test-specimen were made and tested, which included the traditional preflex beam, preflex beams with additional shear connectors above the bottom flange and the beams with some shear keys. The test results are compared with the values given in the design code and analytical results using finite element method with 3-D model. Time dependent effects are also estimated and compared with the values given in design code. It is found that the effects of residual stress in steel girder are greater than expected, which results in more loss of camber, and the produced stress due to shrinkage of casing concrete are far greater than the values given in design code, which may cause the tension cracks in casing concrete of bottom flange. Based on the results of the study, a few proposals are made for improving the quality and durability of preflex beam.
