Summary:A 78-year-old female developed a left axillary tumor that over 4 months, grew to be 12 cm in diameter, inflammatory skin changes were noted. CT and MRI showed that the tumor was not connected to normal mammary gland tissue. To make a definite diagnosis, a total mastectomy and lymph node resection were done. On pathology, a phylloides tumor of borderline malignancy was diagnosed. For two years since surgery, no local recurrences or metastases have been observed. A malignant phyllodes tumor arising from an ectopic mammary gland is extremely rare. This case along with a review of the literature, is presented in this paper.
