Summary:An abstract of a study by Sinclair et al describing the food security status and nutrition indices of Hispanic children attending WIC clinics/distribution centers in central Mississippi counties is presented. Demographic data including mother's education level, family income, years in US, number of adults and number of children in the household were collected from the respondents. 21.2% of respondents experienced low food security while another 50% experienced very low food security. The high incidence of low and very low food security in this small sample suggest a need for a more comprehensive assessment of the food security status of Hispanic families utilizing food and nutrition programs.
