Summary:An abstract of a study by Fenton et al evaluating a medical nutrition therapy and food voucher distribution demonstration program for low income people living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County is presented. Results show that the 2007 preliminary data show 24 dietitians in 24 of 38 potential sites distributed 667 of the 3000 vouchers. RD responses have been positive: administration is easy; vouchers help patients purchase healthy foods and motivate patients to keep MNT appointments and patients are appreciative. Further analysis will include patient demographics, appointment adherence, changes in healthy food knowledge and foods purchased.
