Summary:The behaviour of the Van Hove function S( q, ω) in the neighborhood of the Curie point ( T c ⩽ T⩽1.04 T c ) has been studied in iron by inelastic neutron scattering at scattering vector q in the range 1.8 × 10 -2 < | q| < 7.1 × 10 -2 A ̊ -1 . The critical exponent z of the diffusion constant Λ o {( T− T c )/ T c } z has been found equal to 0.36 ± 0.06 in a region of space ( q, T) where the relaxation seems to be hydrodynamic in character.
