Summary:Certain N-(2, 6-dialkylphenyl)-4-hydroxymethyl- and N-(2, 6-dialkylphenyl)-4-formyl-phtalim-ides were prepared from the corresponding 4-chloroformyl derivatives. The alcohols and aldehydes thus obtained were further converted into a variety of derivatives. N-(2, 6-Dialkylphenyl)-4-sulfo- and N-(2, 6-dialkylphenyl)-4-phosphono-phthalimides were also synthesized along with their related compounds.
