Summary:This is to report the result of durability (weathering and corrosion protection) and characteristics test of a heavy duty protecting coating system which had been developed for the purpose of cost down by use of new paint materials. The coating system, which consists of inorganic zinc primer as a primer coat and high-build type fluorocarbon as a topcoat showed equally good performance in weathering and corrosion protection comparing to conventional type of coating system. Regarding weathering resistance, besides fluorocarbon topcoat silicone-epoxy and inorganic resin based topcoats showed excellent weathering performance as well. Regarding corrosion protection, a coating system which has higher ability in reducing internal stress showed better performance in corrosion protection if coating systems got above a certain level of shielding capability.
