Summary:An increase in the incidence of multiple sclerosis (MS) has been reported over the last decade, possibly due to environmental factors. The purpose of this review article is to summarize current advances in the understanding of the gut-brain axis, which mediates the link between the central nervous system and the gut microbiome. It also summarizes the clinical findings from numerous studies investigating the effects of diseasemodifying therapies on the gut microbiome in patients with MS.
