Summary:ABSTRACT The Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois offers an off‐campus Master's degree opportunity to qualified agriprofessionals, providing semester‐long university courses in crop and soil sciences at various locations throughout the state. The Off‐Campus Graduate Studies (OCGS) program offers courses taught by university faculty, typically in person, 1 weekday evening a week. Since the inception of the degree program in 1986, >80 students have graduated with a Master's degree in crop sciences. In 1999, alumni of the OCGS program were surveyed to ascertain student demographic data as well as perceptions of the value of their educational experience. Students were asked to describe or rank various aspects of the program including decisions to enroll, unexpected benefits, specific courses, use of adjunct instructors and distance learning technology, quality of course locations, and fulfillment of learning goals. Responses indicate a high level of perceived value and satisfaction with the OCGS program. Survey results will be used to help better serve the needs of program participants, improve program marketing strategies, and indicate the value of the program to faculty, administrators, and prospective students.
