Summary: | Analytical methods developed in our previous studies on off-flavours in food packaging materials, foodstuff and air are applied for determination of tainting substances in the aquatic environment. Using these methods, bad smell of fish net was detected to be geosmin. Water of the River Siikajoki contained geosmin and an isomer of methyl isoborneol. Problem substances in water reservoirs and water purification stages at Ahvenanmaa county were detected to be geosmin, methyl isoborneol, some aldehydes, terpenes and volatile organic bromine/chlorine compounds. |
