Polymerization of Formaldehyde with Charge Transfer Complexes

Polymerization of formaldehyde with various charge transfer complexes was carried out. Donoracceptor complexes such asσ-π, n-v, π-π and n-v types (according to Mulliken's classification) did not give high molecular weight polyoxymethylene. n-π and π-σ complexes such as amines-sulfur dioxide and...

Summary:Polymerization of formaldehyde with various charge transfer complexes was carried out. Donoracceptor complexes such asσ-π, n-v, π-π and n-v types (according to Mulliken's classification) did not give high molecular weight polyoxymethylene. n-π and π-σ complexes such as amines-sulfur dioxide and amines-iodine were effective to give high polymer. In the cases of pyridine-sulfur dioxide and pyridine-iodine, polymerization conditions such as molar ratio of donor to acceptor, polymerization temperature, water in polymerization system and solvents were examined.
