Summary:Substandard quartzites from two horizons of the Ovruchskoe Deposit were studied. The results of chemical and petrographic analyses are given. The properties of the materials make them inapplicable for the production of SiO2 refractory parts but quite suitable for the production of unshaped refractories. Blocks containing varying amounts of clay and a ramming mixture based on quartzite from the two horizons were shaped, and their properties determined. The results were shown to be satisfactory, and the blocks can be used for steel ladle linings. The quartzites were also shown to be suitable for use in mortars for lining coke ovens. 2 refs.
