Summary:Pipeline operations are essential for the transport of oil and gas, particularly in resource-rich regions such as the Niger Delta. Though, the operations are fraught with risks including leaks, explosions, environmental degradation, and safety hazards for workers. Therefore, this study aimed explore the importance of HSE supervision in pipeline operations, with a focus on major trunk line – Trans Forcardos Pipeline (TFP) and Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in the Niger Delta, a key component of Nigeria’s oil infrastructure. The review provided comprehensive analysis based on scholarly literatures of from academic databases, focusing on Nigerian pipeline grid and distribution network, as well as the existing oil and gas pipeline. Emphasis was placed on regulatory compliance, the promotion of high health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards, and the critical role of HSE supervision in ensuring safe and efficient pipeline operations while minimizing risks to both personnel and the environment. The result contributed significantly to national output feeding multiple branches from onshore fields. The challenges and successes in applying HSE practices to protect the environment, ensure worker safety, and maintain operational efficiency were outlined. In conclusion, prioritizing high HSE standards in pipeline monitoring and operations is paramount in Niger Delta for sustainable and responsible development. By embracing collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, stakeholders and interested parties can collectively ensure the safety of personnel, protect the environment, and uphold operational integrity in pipeline monitoring and operations.
