Summary: | A rare case of acute brucellosis associated with cholestatic jaundice was reported. The patient was 39 years old paraguayan male, admitted to the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion, with fever and jaundice. The body temperature was 39.5°C, and jaundice, hepato-splenomegaly and lymphadenopathy were noted. The laboratory data demonstrated conjugated hyperbilirubinaemia, elevated GOT, GPT and ALP levels, positive Brucella agglutination test, and positive blood culture for Brucella sp. Ultrasonography, ERCP and laparoscopy showed no evidence of biliary tract obstruction. The hepatic histology revealed cholestatic hepatitis. The antibiotic therapy induced a good clinical and biochemical response. |
