Summary:Cord blood transplantation has become an important method of achieving the hematopoietic reconstitution of marrow-ablated unrelated patients. It has been reported that improved patient survival results from higher cell doses and better histocompatibility matches. The prompt availability of these preferred cord blood units for patients in need can only arise from increased collection and improved access of transplant physicians to the available inventory. Consequently, the Tokyo Cord Blood Bank (TCB) has created a computer program using Kanri and Exporter software which allows the secure transfer and integration of the TCB database of cord blood inventory with the “virtual office” NETCORD web site, allowing transplant physicians to search the combined inventory of the two networks.
