Summary:We have studied the clinical characteristics of liver cirrhosis with extrahepatic portal-Systemic shunt and in portal vein pressure<20cmH2O. This low-grade portal hypertension was noted in 10 cases (9.1%) out of 110 cirrhotic subjects through PTP. There were 1A, 6B's, 3C's by Child's grading, spreading over respective stages. In five patients who underwent embolization, their PVP was increased from 14±4 to 23±2. Extrahepatic portosystemic shunt was derived from short gastric vein, but not from left gasric vein alone. Through endoscopic examination, no esophageal varices over F2 were recognized, while gastric varices over F2 were found in 3 cases. As clinical manifestation, recurrent encephalopathy was noted in 50% without variceal hemorrhage. In conclusion, we presume that some type of liver cirrhosis may develop low-grade portal hypertension in respecitve stage.
