Summary: | Cerebro-vascular accidents (CVA) is known as an serious complication encountered in patients with Takayasu disease. To elucidate its causative factor, we compared frequencies of hypertension (HT), aortic insufficiency (AI), histocompatibility antigen HLA-Bw52 and platelet aggregability in 24 patients attacked by CVA, including episode of transient ischemic attack (TIA) [CVT-group], with 85 patients without CVA [NCT-group] in patients with Takayasu disease. In CVT-group, 9 patients (38%) were found to be suffered from HT, 4 (17%) from AI. The frequencies of which revealed no statistically significant difference, as compared with those in NCT-group (31%, 21%). HLA-Bw52 is known its high frequency in Takayasu disease as compared with that in Japanese, however, there are no NCT-group. Higher platelet aggregabilities induced by collagen (2μg/ml), ADP (3μM) and adrenaline (1μg/ml) were found as compared with these of 25 age-matched healthy women. Furthermore patients in CVT-group showed a statistically significant higher aggregabilities induced by collagen than that in NCT-group. These data suggest that high platelet aggregabilities, concomitant with vascular change or injury, might greatly influence to induce cerebro-vascular accidents in patients with Takayasu disease. |
