Summary:Loss of any support system among the craftsmen community hurts their livelihood. Various organizations undertake efforts to stop this from happening. However, it is difficult to keep track of the situation among various crafts across the country at the same time. In order to keep a vigilant eye on changes in crafts, and to protect the craftsmen from losing their livelihood, an assessment model is required to develop. This model aims at serving as a diagnostic tool that presents the information about the performance of many crafts simultaneously. In order to do so, it was essential to first determine the factors that are at play in the existence of crafts. This paper intends to discuss the first step towards attempting to create that model by determining the factors that impact crafts in India with a view to quantify them at the next stage.
