A study of the dicyandiamide–epoxidian oligomer system curing in the presence of asymmetric urea by pulsed NMR

Summary:Catalyzed epoxy systems comprising epoxidian oligomer ED-20, dicyandiamide (DCDA) as a curing catalyst and asymmetric urea as an accelerator (Dyhard-UR500) were studied by pulsed NMR. It was shown that full curing of the epoxy composition with formation of a rigid three-dimensional network is achieved when cured in the conditions specified in the previous works of the authors. While at 80°C curing reaction practically does not proceed, thermostating of the composition for 6.5 h at 110°C leads to the formation of a physical network in partially cured epoxy matrix.
